Muzaffarnagar Police Remove Loudspeakers from Four Mosques for Noise Violations

Muzaffarnagar: Police removed four loudspeakers from mosques in the Civil Lines area after officers recorded sound levels above the legal limit. The action formed part of an ongoing noise enforcement drive that began last week across the district. Police teams inspected religious sites during night hours and seized equipment that breached sound norms. The removed loudspeakers were taken from the Mohammadi Mosque in Hajipura, Ayesha Mosque, Saifi Colony Mosque and Barri Mosque.

District officials said they acted after multiple complaints from nearby residents. They added that the operation followed Supreme Court guidelines that permit the use of loudspeakers at religious places only within set decibel limits. Officers said the law restricts sound from rising above 20 decibels over ambient levels or spreading outside the premises. Police issued written warnings to the mosque committees after the removals.

DSP City Siddharth K Mishra said the campaign will continue where inspectors document further violations. He said officers have been instructed to ensure that no religious place operates a loudspeaker outside the legal sound range. According to police, the campaign has also led to voluntary compliance from several locations where committees chose to remove equipment after learning the rules.

Local Muslim residents expressed concern about the timing of the operation and the need for clear communication with mosque managements. Community members said the guidelines must be applied evenly across all religious institutions so no group feels targeted. They asked for constructive engagement between authorities and religious bodies to support lawful observance of daily prayers.
