The Muslim World League (MWL) has launched its international initiative, Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities, aimed at raising awareness and fostering support for girls’ education across Muslim societies worldwide.
The initiative, spearheaded by MWL Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, focuses on collaborative strategies to engage public and private institutions, alongside individuals, in championing equal access to education for girls. Supported by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the programme brings together an impressive array of scholars, educators, and influential institutions, including members of MWL Islamic Fiqh Council and League of Islamic Universities.
Key highlights of the initiative include establishment of International Partnerships Platform, which will enable agreements between regional and global organisations committed to women’s empowerment and education. The programme also calls for the introduction of an international day dedicated to advocating girls’ education and will present its goals through the Islamabad Declaration for Girls’ Education to international bodies.
Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa described the initiative as a transformative effort, emphasising its focus on measurable outcomes and impactful partnerships. “This initiative reflects our commitment to addressing critical challenges and ensuring tangible progress for girls’ education within Muslim communities,” he said.
The OIC Secretary General, Hissein Brahim Taha, reiterated the organisation’s full support, emphasising the importance of collective efforts to achieve the initiative’s objectives.
