New Delhi: Congress slammed PM Narendra Modi for “economic surrender” to the US, questioning his silence on tariff cuts.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera mocked Modi with, “Name Narendra, job surrender,” and asked why 140 crore Indians learned about India’s trade policy from US President Donald Trump. He questioned if India cut tariffs under pressure from Modi’s “close friend” Trump.
Khera asked why India surrendered national and strategic interests and what Minister Piyush Goyal was doing in the US when Trump made the announcement. He argued that suffering reciprocal tariffs is better than surrendering first.
He questioned if Modi consulted the Union Cabinet, CCEA, Parliament, or political parties before making this decision. If Canada and Mexico stood up to Trump, why couldn’t India?
Khera warned that India’s global standing weakens when it undermines its own power. He recalled how India resisted America’s 7th Fleet in 1971 but now allows Trump to insult it.
Calling Modi’s trade policy “disastrous,” he said further concessions would crush the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat plans under the weight of Modi’s surrender.
