Mangaluru: The 11th Late Mrs. Naseema Fareed Memorial Lecture was organised at Kanachur on February 3 by Kanachur College of Physiotherapy and Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre, in association with the U.T. Fareed Foundation (R).
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Subramanyam K, Head of the Department and Professor of Cardiology at Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru. Speaking on the occasion, he underscored the critical role of physiotherapy in contemporary healthcare, particularly in cardiac rehabilitation and patient recovery, and stressed the need for a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
Dr. Haji U. K. Monu, Chairman of KIET, presided over the programme. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Ismail Hejamady, who spoke on recent advancements and emerging opportunities in the field of physiotherapy.
Among those present were Abdul Rahiman, Director, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences; Dr. Vaishali Sreejith, Senate Member, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru; Dr. Sudhan S. G., Professor and Principal, Krupanidhi College of Physiotherapy, Bengaluru; Dr. Shanavaz Manipady, Dean, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences; and Dr. Venkat Rai Prabhu, Member, Kanachur Health Science Advisory Council.
Dr. Mohammad Suhail, Dean of Kanachur College of Physiotherapy, welcomed the gathering.
As part of the programme, a two-day free workshop was organised, featuring sessions on cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, organ donation, chest X-ray interpretation and pulmonary rehabilitation. The sessions were conducted by subject experts from various departments of Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and allied institutions.
The organisers said the memorial lecture series, now in its 11th year, has been consistently drawing participation from interns and postgraduate students across Mangaluru. Around 130 delegates attended the workshop.
