Jaipur, Sep 3: In a concerted effort to combat the growing menace of drug addiction, Nasha Mukti Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha has been established by responsible citizens from various parts of the city. This initiative comes in response to the alarming rise in drug abuse, particularly among the youth, across Rajasthan’s capital.
On Monday, a pivotal meeting was held at Madrasa Hidayatul Islam in Bhattabasti, where representatives from various social organizations gathered to devise a strategy for tackling this pressing issue. The attendees, numbering in the hundreds, unanimously agreed that the proliferation of drug addiction has led to a significant increase in criminal activities and has put thousands of families on the brink of collapse. The meeting highlighted the disturbing trend of rising gambling and betting habits, further exacerbated by substance abuse.
The Morcha, in collaboration with local law enforcement and administrative bodies, will spearhead a campaign targeting drug dealers and users across all Jaipur neighbourhoods. This initiative will involve identification of individuals involved in sale and consumption of drugs, followed by coordinated legal actions against perpetrators.
In addition to its enforcement efforts, the Morcha will also focus on rehabilitation of drug users. A dedicated committee will be formed to counsel individuals battling addiction, aiming to reintegrate them into society.
Pappu Qureshi, a Morcha key member, expressed deep concern over the impact of drug addiction on families, citing financial hardships and social challenges faced by those affected. Qureshi highlighted the disturbing tactics of drug mafias, who lure minors into addiction by initially providing free drugs, only to later exploit them for distribution.
Morcha members Haji Saeed Ahmed and Shoaib Chandel emphasized the ongoing efforts, stating that teams have already begun patrolling their respective areas. They plan to submit a comprehensive report to the police administration soon.
Younus Chopdar, another active member, raised concerns about the rapidly expanding club culture in the city, which he believes is driving the youth towards more expensive and dangerous narcotics. He also pointed out the alarming ease with which narcotics are being sold in medical shops, attributing this to administrative negligence.
The meeting saw the participation of prominent figures, including Councilors Zahid Nirvana, Haji Mohd. Ahsan, and their representatives, alongside other key community leaders such as Pandit Shyamlal Tiwari, Raviraj Singh, Sheikh Khalil Ahmed, and many others. Their collective resolve marks the beginning of a determined grassroots movement aimed at eradicating the drug problem in Jaipur.
