Raipur/New Delhi: In a significant directive ahead of Independence Day, the Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board has announced that hoisting the national flag will be mandatory at all mosques, dargahs, imambaras, and khanqahs across the state on August 15.
Waqf Board Chairman Salim Raj said the move reflects the community’s deep respect for the Tricolour. “In Chhattisgarh, it is now mandatory to hoist the national flag at the main entrance or in front of every mosque, dargah, imambara, and khanqah. This decision reflects our belief that Indian Muslims deeply honour and respect the Tricolour,” he stated.
The order instructs local mosque committees and imams to lead the ceremonies. An online portal has been launched for uploading photographs from each location to ensure proper documentation.
Meanwhile, in the national capital, the Delhi Police have intensified security measures in preparation for Independence Day. On Sunday, interaction-cum-briefing sessions were conducted for private security personnel, known as Praharis, across all police districts. The sessions trained guards in identifying potential threats, following security protocols, and enhancing community vigilance.
Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh personally addressed Praharis at two major venues—the Multipurpose Hall in Delhi University’s North Campus and the auditorium at Lotus Temple in the South-East District. Around 1,100 Praharis attended the programmes, where they received security kits containing caps, reflective jackets, batons, and whistles.
Praising their contribution, Commissioner Singh described private security guards as “force multipliers” whose alertness and cooperation significantly enhance the reach and effectiveness of law enforcement.
These twin developments highlight coordinated efforts to promote patriotism and ensure public safety during India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations.
