Allege BJP Leader’s Close Relative Involved, Call for CBI Probe
New Delhi – A coalition of national women’s organizations has demanded justice for Ankita, a young woman working in a hotel in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, who was found murdered and her body dumped away from her workplace. The groups have called for a time-bound and scientific CBI investigation, alleging that the police are shielding the accused, who is a close relative of a BJP leader.
In a joint statement, the organizations pointed out that the hotel where Ankita worked was owned by a BJP leader’s close relative.
Ignored Evidence and Bulldozing of the Hotel
“Before her murder, Ankita had sent WhatsApp messages to her friend, pleading for immediate help, expressing her terror after refusing to provide ‘special services’ demanded by a VIP guest of the hotel. However, the identity of the VIP guest remains undisclosed by the police. Additionally, her hotel room and parts of the hotel were bulldozed on the orders of a local MLA and the Chief Minister of the BJP-led Uttarakhand government, soon after her body was discovered,” the statement alleged.
The organizations further criticized the police chargesheet, stating that it ignored crucial evidence, including Ankita’s messages. They asserted that such methods—destroying or disregarding evidence, including the demolition of the hotel—mirror past cases where those in power have escaped justice despite committing acts of violence, including sexual violence, against ordinary women.
Demand for CBI Probe After Supreme Court Setback
Ankita’s family and friends approached the Supreme Court, hoping that a CBI inquiry would uncover the full truth. However, the petition was dismissed by the court, leaving them deeply disappointed.
“We urge the Uttarakhand government and the central government to order a CBI investigation. A time-bound, fair, and scientific probe is a fundamental right of citizens, and the Supreme Court must safeguard this right,” the statement added.
