Netanyahu Apologises to Qatari PM for Strike on Doha Amid Peace Push

Washington: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly apologised to Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani for a September 9 strike on Doha that killed a Qatari security guard. The rare apology came during a phone call made from the White House, where Netanyahu is currently holding talks with US President Donald Trump.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, Netanyahu admitted that the strike violated Qatar’s sovereignty and expressed regret for the civilian casualty. The conversation lasted several minutes and took place as Washington attempts to push forward a peace framework to end the Gaza war and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.

The incident had strained relations with Doha, which had halted its role as a mediator in talks with Hamas following the attack. Qatar has played a central role in past negotiations and its participation is seen as critical for any breakthrough.

Reports suggest that a Qatari technical team is already present in Washington as part of discussions tied to Trump’s ongoing efforts to conclude an agreement. The apology is being viewed as part of wider diplomacy aimed at bringing Qatar back into the negotiating process.

Observers note that Netanyahu’s outreach reflects the importance of Qatar’s mediation in regional diplomacy, especially at a time when the conflict in Gaza continues and humanitarian conditions remain dire.
