New Delhi: The National Federation of Youth Movement (NFYM) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai, terming it a direct assault on the Constitution, the judiciary, and the foundations of Indian democracy.
NFYM Chairman Masihuzzama Ansari expressed grave concern over the incident, emphasising that the attack is not merely against an individual but against the very principles that uphold the rule of law and democratic governance in the country.
“What is even more alarming,” he added, “is the reaction of certain right-wing media outlets and affiliated groups who are seen celebrating the incident and defending the accused advocate. Such conduct strikes at the heart of judicial independence and sets a perilous precedent for democratic values.”
NFYM has demanded that the authorities take strict legal action against those attempting to mock, justify, or encourage acts of violence against constitutional institutions.
The organisation has also urged the Press Council of India and other media regulatory bodies to act swiftly against news channels and digital platforms that continue to broadcast interviews of the accused advocate, who is repeatedly making defamatory and personal remarks against the Chief Justice of India. Allowing such content to air, NFYM said, not only violates journalistic ethics but also undermines public confidence in the judiciary.
Reaffirming its commitment, NFYM stated that it remains steadfast in defending the dignity of the judiciary, upholding democratic values, and encouraging responsible media conduct. The Federation emphasised that timely action in this matter is essential to deter any future attempts to target constitutional offices or erode faith in the justice system.
