Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrived in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district to investigate the blast in front of Delhi’s Red Fort.
Two days after the explosion, an NIA team reached Nimgram in the Navgram area on Wednesday and conducted raid at the residence of a local contractor, identified as Mainul Hasan. Crucial leads reportedly emerged after investigators examined the mobile phone of one of the accused in the Delhi blast case. Acting on that information, the NIA team conducted an extensive search at Mainul’s house. Following the raid, officers also visited a few nearby locations in Murshidabad for further inquiries.
Preliminary findings suggest that Mainul, who has been working as a migrant labourer in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai for several years, may have come into contact with individuals associated with militant organisations during his employment outside the state. However, Mainul was reportedly not present at home during the search operation. His family stated that he is currently out of West Bengal for work. His brother, Asad Hossain, said, “I cannot say anything about the NIA. My brother is not at home right now.”
While investigators have not yet confirmed Mainul’s involvement with any militant module, intelligence sources indicate that surveillance has been increased on a few other residents of the area who have a history of working in other states. The probe continues as the NIA seeks to uncover possible connections between the Delhi blast accused and individuals in Murshidabad.
