NIA Charges Six in Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslim Trafficking Case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet before the NIA Special Court in Assam against six individuals accused of trafficking Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into India. The agency registered the case on its own in December 2021 following inputs on organised cross border human trafficking.

Investigators identified the accused as Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury, Bapan Ahmed Choudhury, Sahalam Laskar, Jamaluddin Choudhury, all residents of Cachar district in Assam, along with Wanbiang Suting from Meghalaya. The chargesheet states the group operated a coordinated network involving multiple locations across India and Bangladesh.

According to the investigation, the accused facilitated illegal entry of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into India for exploitation and permanent settlement. The agency said the network focused on minor girls and women. Officials stated the group arranged transport routes, temporary accommodation, and forged identity documents to enable long term stay within the country.

The investigation revealed links with other conspirators operating across state and national borders. These individuals played specific roles in movement, shelter, and documentation of trafficked persons. The agency stated the use of fake Indian documents formed a core part of the operation.

Officials highlighted human trafficking as a serious crime harming vulnerable communities and undermining legal systems. The agency stressed enforcement action remains necessary to disrupt such networks and prevent further exploitation.

The NIA stated further investigation continues to identify additional links, funding channels, and facilitators connected to the network. Authorities said future action will depend on findings emerging from ongoing probes and forensic examination of seized materials.
