New Delhi: Former IAS officer and author Niyaz Khan has sparked debate after urging Muslims to change their traditional attire to reduce the risk of being identified during incidents of mob lynching.
In a post on X, Khan said many Muslim victims of mob lynching were identified through clothing such as kurta, pajama, skull cap and beard. He suggested Muslims adopt attire similar to Turkish Muslims so their religious identity is less visible in public.
Khan wrote that many incidents of mob lynching involving Muslims occurred when victims wore traditional Islamic clothing. He argued that changing dress and appearance would make immediate identification more difficult.
His remarks drew attention because they addressed concerns over the safety of Muslims in public spaces. The statement also prompted discussion over identity, religious expression and security.
In separate posts, Khan expressed concern over the condition of democracy in many countries. He said several independent nations adopted democratic systems without embracing their basic principles. According to him, corruption among political leaders and government officials continues while people remain occupied with welfare benefits.
Khan also commented on environmental issues, stating that materialism has caused serious damage to the environment. He urged people to reflect on its long term impact.
Addressing politics, the former civil servant said financially secure and honest individuals should enter public life. He argued that electing people with criminal backgrounds weakens democratic institutions and governance.
