New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Rekha Gupta on Tuesday assured residents of colonies located in the O-Zone area that no demolition action would be taken against existing structures, seeking to allay fears among thousands of families living in the region, said a UNI report.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to review issues concerning O-Zone colonies, Ms. Gupta said the Delhi Government stands firmly with the lakhs of residents residing in the area and is committed to safeguarding their interests.
The Chief Minister clarified that constructions already in existence would not be demolished. She noted that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had received the necessary approval from the High Court regarding the matter.
During the meeting, Ms. Gupta sought clarification from senior DDA officials and stated that the court had not made any adverse observations concerning existing constructions in the O-Zone area. According to her, the court’s concerns were limited to ongoing and future construction activities, and any action by the DDA should be strictly in accordance with the court’s directions.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to the residents, Gupta said that the Delhi Government would continue to engage with all stakeholders to find a practical solution to the issues affecting the area.
She also announced that she would soon meet Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, along with public representatives from the affected colonies, to discuss the matter in detail and explore further measures to address residents’ concerns.
In a move aimed at preventing confusion among residents, the Chief Minister directed DDA officials to revise the wording of notice boards installed in the O-Zone area. She said the language should accurately reflect the spirit of the court’s observations so that people are not subjected to unnecessary anxiety, uncertainty, or apprehension regarding their homes.
The assurance comes amid concerns among residents over possible action against constructions in the O-Zone region. The Chief Minister’s statement is expected to provide relief to thousands of families who have been seeking clarity on the status of their homes and properties.
