Saudi Arabia has decided to implement a new regulatory framework which aims to counter “the improper exchange of special goods and alcoholic beverages received by the embassies of non-Muslim countries inside Saudi Arabia,” according to Arab News on Sunday.
In a bid to stop the uncontrolled importing of these goods and liquors within the diplomatic consignments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “is in the process of informing the diplomatic missions in the Kingdom of new measures” which will “allow and ensure that all diplomats of non-Muslim countries have access to these special products and spirits within a specified quota and via a regulated process that prohibit illegal exchange activities.”
