New Delhi: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged the country to avoid linking Kashmiri Muslims to terrorism after the recent blast near Red Fort Metro Station. His statement followed the arrest of three Kashmiri doctors accused of involvement in the attack. The blast killed 13 people and injured nearly two dozen others.
Abdullah addressed reporters in Jammu. He condemned the attack and stated that no faith supports violence against civilians. He warned against painting entire communities with one brush. He said that a few individuals disrupt peace in the region and that collective suspicion harms social stability.
Investigators have linked the arrested doctors to the Pakistan based Jaish e Mohammad group. The suspects include Dr Umar Mohammad from Pulwama, Dr Muzammil from Pulwama, and Dr Adeel Rather from Anantnag. Another doctor, Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow, is also in custody. All four worked at Al Falah University in Faridabad where the conspiracy was planned.
Abdullah called for strict action against those behind the blast. He stressed the need to protect innocent citizens during the investigation. He pointed to earlier cases where educated professionals were accused of similar crimes. He said that education does not guarantee lawful conduct.
He also raised concerns about security lapses. He questioned the follow up after one of the suspects was removed from his previous job. He asked why no proper investigation or prosecution took place at that time. He added that the Jammu and Kashmir administration supports the central government in maintaining order.
