4 June 2024: National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah expressed optimism about winning the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat despite trailing behind Independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid by 25,000 votes in early trends.
“There will be ups and downs, but the final results will be in our favour,” Abdullah told reporters, reflecting confidence in the face of fluctuating vote counts.
When questioned about exit polls predicting a decisive victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Abdullah acknowledged their mixed accuracy. “Exit polls have been wrong in the past but also right sometimes. While we are hopeful, we have apprehensions that not all exit polls can be wrong,” he remarked, adding that the clarity on results would emerge by early afternoon.
Most exit polls suggest that Modi is poised for a third consecutive term, with the NDA projected to secure a substantial majority in the Lok Sabha. Predictions range from over 350 to more than 400 seats, significantly surpassing the 272 seats required for a majority.
The NC leader’s optimism underscores the unpredictable nature of elections and the resilience of his campaign, despite current projections. As the vote counting progresses, the final outcome remains eagerly anticipated by all parties involved.
