On Sambhal Police Firing, Priyanka Gandhi Urges SC to Intervene

New Delhi: In response to the recent violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has strongly criticised the Yogi Adityanath-led state government for “creating unrest” through what she described as “reckless actions.” She urged the Supreme Court to take suo-motu cognizance of the matter and ensure justice.

Speaking about the incident, she described the administration’s handling of the “sudden dispute” in Sambhal as “highly unfortunate.”

“The state government’s approach to the situation in Sambhal is deeply regrettable. The administration acted in haste on such a sensitive matter, failing to hear all sides or take both parties into confidence. This reckless behaviour by the government has only worsened the atmosphere. Furthermore, the authorities neglected their responsibility to follow due process,” Priyanka Gandhi wrote on X.

The Congress leader also appealed to the people of Uttar Pradesh to remain calm and avoid escalation.

She added, “Using power to foster discrimination, oppression, and division serves neither the people nor the nation. The Supreme Court must intervene and deliver justice. I urge everyone to maintain peace under all circumstances.”
