“Only Those Who Play Hindu-Muslim Politics Have a Problem with Urdu”: SP MP Avadhesh Prasad Slams CM Yogi

SP Leader Criticizes Yogi Adityanath’s Remarks, Calls Them Unbefitting of a Chief Minister

New Delhi : The controversy over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s remarks on Urdu continues to escalate, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) intensifying its criticism. SP MP Avadhesh Prasad from Ayodhya has strongly condemned Yogi’s statement, accusing him of using divisive Hindu-Muslim politics to target the Urdu language.

Prasad emphasized that Urdu is not confined to any particular community but is a language of love, respect, and cultural harmony. Describing it as one of India’s finest languages, he noted its historic role in fostering communication between diverse communities. Additionally, he highlighted that many official and judicial records are maintained in Urdu, underscoring its administrative significance.

“Only those who engage in Hindu-Muslim politics have a problem with Urdu,” Prasad remarked. “For others, it is simply a widely spoken language that incorporates numerous Hindi words and is used in daily conversations.”

Responding to Yogi Adityanath’s controversial “Katth Mullah” remark, Prasad criticized the language used, stating that such words are unbecoming of a saint or a spiritual leader. He further asserted that Uttar Pradesh, with its legacy of producing seven Prime Ministers, has always upheld its Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb (composite culture), and such rhetoric does not suit the stature of a Chief Minister.

Prasad also linked Yogi’s comments to his alleged struggles following recent incidents at the Maha Kumbh, where several casualties were reported. “Now that he is under pressure and scrutiny, he is resorting to irresponsible statements. But we are not giving much attention to his words,” he added.

The controversy stems from Yogi Adityanath’s statements during the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, where he accused the Samajwadi Party of hypocrisy. He alleged that while SP leaders send their children to English-medium schools, they advocate for Urdu when the government seeks to enhance educational facilities for the general public.

As tensions over linguistic politics intensify, the debate surrounding Urdu’s role in Uttar Pradesh remains far from over.
