26 August 2024: In the midst of escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian city of Gaza lies in ruins, with the violence now spreading to Lebanon and Iran. In response to recent developments, Israel launched over 100 missiles targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, to which Hezbollah retaliated with over 300 rockets, as per a report by The Hindustan Times.
In India, a group of opposition parties took a stand by meeting with Palestinian leader Mohammed Mukram Bilawi in Delhi. Following their meeting, the delegation issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocidal” and called upon the Indian government to cease supplying arms to Israel.
The delegation, comprising members from the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), included notable figures such as JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi. The joint statement, signed by all attendees, urged India to uphold its historical support for justice and human rights, asserting that the nation cannot be complicit in the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
The statement also invoked the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, emphasizing India’s proud history of supporting Palestinian sovereignty and self-determination. The opposition leaders stressed the importance of maintaining this stance and urged the government to reconsider its current policies towards Israel.
