Makkah — Over 1.2 million pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for Umrah since the season began on Dhul-Hijjah 15 (June 21), according to the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah. The figure marks a significant 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year, reported the Arab Times .
The ministry reported that pilgrims from 109 countries entered the Kingdom on Umrah visas, reflecting the growing global participation in this spiritual journey. Additionally, the number of Umrah visas issued has seen a 27 percent year-on-year rise.
Saudi authorities have signed over 4,200 contracts between local Umrah service providers and international agents, enhancing logistical support for the influx of pilgrims. This expansion follows a successful Haj season, bolstered by streamlined procedures, improved coordination, and upgrades in digital infrastructure.
As part of its ongoing efforts to serve the guests of the Two Holy Mosques, the ministry has launched expanded digital services in various languages and strengthened awareness initiatives. These services are accessible through Nusuk, the Kingdom’s official digital platform for pilgrimage, which began facilitating visa applications and appointments from Dhul-Hijjah 14.
During the first quarter of 2025 alone, more than 6.5 million international pilgrims performed Umrah—an 11 percent increase over the same period in 2024.
Unlike Haj, which is obligatory once in a lifetime and performed during a specific period, Umrah is a non-mandatory pilgrimage that can be undertaken at any time of the year.
