Owaisi condemns MoS Home’s statement against madrasas

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has condemned a statement of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar against madrasas. The Hyderabad MP accused the Minister of State for encouraging Islamophobia in India.

“This person is the MoS Home and makes a general sweeping statement against Madrasas. It shows the Honourable Minister’s mindset. Every Indian should strongly condemn this hateful statement of MoS Home. He is encouraging Islamophobia in India,” Owaisi said in a social media post.

The Hyderabad MP was reacting to Kumar’s wild accusations against madrasas. The Central minister alleged that madrasas are fostering terrorism and posing a grave threat to the nation’s security.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new hostel block at a school in Karimnagar district, Kumar targeted madrasas.

“Madrasas that provide training in making AK-47 rifles even with the help of broomsticks are breeding grounds for terrorism and pose a danger to the country’s security,” he said.

Kumar, who is an MP from Karimnagar constituency, further questioned the state government’s decision to provide funds to institutions that are “actively promoting extremism.”

The former president of BJP’s Telangana unit criticized the lack of funding for Shishumandir schools and said they “promote Indian Sanatana culture and traditions” through education.

Kumar is notorious for delivering provocative speeches. A second-time MP from Karimnagar, he had last year sparked a row with his demand for digging work at all mosques, saying there was a possibility of finding Shiva Lingams underneath.

He also stated that if BJP comes to power in Telangana, it will abolish all madrasas, do away with reservation for Muslims, and remove Urdu as the second official language.
