Owaisi Condemns Police Firing in Sambhal

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned the firing by Uttar Pradesh police on those peacefully protesting in Sambhal.

The Hyderabad MP demanded impartial investigation into the incident. “Three youths have died in the police firing. We pray to Allah to forgive the deceased and give patience to their families. There should be an impartial investigation of this incident. Action should be taken against the officers who are responsible,” Owaisi posted on ‘X’.

The AIMIM chief reacted to the Smbhal incident with this Urdu couplet of Faiz Ahmed Faiz; “Tujhko kitno ka lahu chahiye ae arz-e-watan Jo tere aariz-e-berang ko gulnaar karein Kitni aahon se kaleja tera thanda hoga Kitne aansu tere sehraahon ko gulzar karein.”

Owaisi had earlier found fault with the judgment of the Civil Judge, who ordered survey of Shahi Jama Masjid at Chandausi, Sambhal within three hours of an application being submitted with the claim that it was built after demolishing a temple.

The Civil Judge pronounced the orders on a petition filed by a mahant who claimed the mosque was built in 1526 after demolishing a temple that stood there.

Civil Judge (Senior Division) Aditya Singh directed Ramesh Chand Raghav, whom the court appointed advocate commissioner, to carry out an initial survey at the mosque site to find out if a temple had been demolished to build the mosque. The court also directed that a report of the survey should be filed by November 29.

Locals staged a protest on Sunday (November 24) when the survey team led by Advocate Commissioner reached the Mughal-era mosque for the survey. There were violent clashes between the locals and the police, leading to the deaths of three individuals.

The deceased were identified as Naeem, Bilal and Nauman. Some policemen including the gunner of the superintendent of police have also been injured.
