Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that his party is in talks with Mahagathbandhan leaders in Bihar, including those from the RJD and Congress, with the goal of defeating the BJP-led NDA in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year, reported the Siasat.
Owaisi revealed that AIMIM’s Bihar state president, Akhtarul Iman, has already initiated discussions with leaders of the grand alliance. He stated that the primary objective is to prevent the NDA from returning to power in the state.
Owaisi emphasized that AIMIM is open to forming an alliance with Mahagathbandhan to consolidate opposition votes. However, he made it clear that if an alliance doesn’t materialize, AIMIM is prepared to contest all seats independently.
Highlighting AIMIM’s influence in the Seemanchal region, Owaisi pointed out that the party has a strong grassroots presence there. In previous elections, AIMIM had secured five seats in the region, though four MLAs later defected to the RJD.
Owaisi also raised concerns over the ongoing “Special Intensive Revision” of the voter list in Bihar. He criticized the document requirements such as birth certificates, residence proofs, and parental address certificates, stating that these disproportionately impact the poor and displaced, particularly in flood-affected regions like Seemanchal.
He accused the authorities of creating barriers that could disenfranchise thousands of genuine voters and described the process as “legally questionable.” Owaisi has written to the Election Commission of India, warning that the process may undermine constitutional rights.
