Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi filed a complaint on Monday against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over a video circulated on social media targeting Muslims.
The clip appeared earlier on the X account of the Assam BJP. The party later removed the post. The video showed Sarma aiming a rifle and firing a shot toward two Muslim men. The caption read point-blank shot. Many users condemned the clip and described it as an open call for violence against Muslims.
Owaisi approached Hyderabad City Police with a formal complaint. He cited a Supreme Court judgment and referred to the constitutional duty of authorities to protect fundamental rights, constitutional values, and democratic character of the country.
The complaint stated the video imagery and phrases such as point-blank shot and no mercy aimed to outrage religious feelings of Muslims. It accused the act of promoting hatred and ill will between religious communities. The complaint also alleged intent to incite communal violence.
Owaisi accused Sarma of engaging in acts intended to promote enmity between religious communities. He said the conduct involved imputations harmful to national integration and public harmony.
The AIMIM president urged Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar to initiate criminal action under applicable law. He called for prompt steps to address hate speech and violent imagery directed at a religious community. He warned silence from authorities would deepen fear among Muslims and weaken trust in constitutional safeguards.
