Hyderabad: In a significant political development in Telangana, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has successfully retained the Hyderabad MLC seat as its candidate Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri emerged victorious, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee with a comfortable margin, reported the Deccan Herald.
The election, held for the lone seat under the MLA quota, witnessed intense competition between the AIMIM and the BJP. Backed by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Jafri’s win consolidates the party’s influence in the region, particularly in the Old City of Hyderabad, which remains a stronghold for the party.
Jafri, a senior AIMIM leader and incumbent MLC, had the support of the Congress-led state government as well. His victory is seen as a political setback for the BJP, which had fielded a candidate in an attempt to make inroads into the state’s legislative council.
With this win, AIMIM continues to maintain its hold over Hyderabad’s political landscape and asserts its growing relevance in Telangana’s evolving political dynamics.
