Owaisi’s Controversial Slogans Expunged from Parliamentary Records

New Delhi, June 25: The slogans chanted by AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi after taking his oath in the 18th Lok Sabha were expunged from the parliamentary records. This decision followed uproar from the treasury benches.

Owaisi, who was sworn in as a member of the Lok Sabha for the fifth time, later reiterated his commitment to raising issues concerning India’s marginalized communities in a post on social media platform X.

During the oath-taking ceremony, Pro-Tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab declared that any slogans used by MPs would be expunged from the records. This decision came after Radha Mohan Singh, who was presiding over the session at the time, assured members that only the oaths would be recorded.

As Owaisi took his oath in Urdu, BJP MPs chanted “Jai Shri Ram” in response. Owaisi concluded his oath with a controversial slogan, sparking further debate. Defending his actions, Owaisi challenged his critics to point out any constitutional violations, asserting his right to express his views.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy condemned Owaisi’s slogan as “absolutely wrong” and contrary to the Constitution. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also criticized the mention of any foreign country during the oath-taking process.

Owaisi had defeated BJP candidate Madhavi Latha by a margin of 3.3 lakh votes in the Hyderabad constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Despite the controversy, he remains resolute in his mission to advocate for the marginalized sectors of Indian society.
