5 July 2024: The Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza announced on Thursday that the Palestinian death toll from the protracted Israel-Hamas conflict has surpassed 38,000, marking a devastating milestone in nearly nine months of relentless warfare. This announcement followed the tragic arrival of 58 bodies at local hospitals within the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative death toll to 38,011.
The ongoing conflict has also resulted in over 87,000 Palestinians being wounded, highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. The Health Ministry’s statistics do not distinguish between fighters and noncombatants, but reports indicate that a significant number of those killed and injured are women and children, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the violence.
The conflict has caused widespread devastation across Gaza, with numerous residential areas, hospitals, and schools sustaining heavy damage or being completely destroyed. The continuous airstrikes, ground operations, and rocket exchanges have left many parts of Gaza in ruins, exacerbating the dire living conditions for its residents.
International calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian intervention have intensified, yet a resolution remains elusive. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with various nations and organizations attempting to mediate between the warring parties to halt the bloodshed and address the urgent humanitarian needs of the affected population.
As the conflict drags on, the plight of the Palestinian people continues to draw global attention, with many urging for immediate action to alleviate their suffering and to work towards a lasting peace in the region.
