Parakala Prabhakar and Justice Chandrakumar Warn of Democratic Erosion and Soaring Inequality in India

10 May 2024: In a thought-provoking seminar organized by the Prajaswamya Parirakshana Samithi, Parakala Prabhakar, a prominent political analyst, and retired Justice Chandrakumar highlighted pressing concerns regarding the state of democracy and inequality in India. The event, held at the S.R Convention Hall, Khammam, Telangana, under the chairmanship of Dr. MF Gopinath, served as a platform for rigorous discussion on the current political landscape.

Parakala Prabhakar sounded the alarm, asserting that a potential re-election of the BJP could spell the end of future elections in the country. He lamented the erosion of democratic practices, accusing the ruling party of disregarding constitutional norms and undermining democratic institutions. Prabhakar raised poignant questions regarding transparency, citing examples such as the opacity surrounding the PM Cares fund and unmet electoral promises.

Echoing these sentiments, Justice Chandrakumar drew attention to the widening chasm of inequality in India. With wealth concentrated in the hands of a select few, Chandrakumar criticized the government’s failure to address the plight of millions living below the poverty line. He condemned what he perceived as the prioritization of corporate interests over the welfare of ordinary citizens, particularly farmers, citing alleged corruption in major government initiatives.

The seminar, attended by community leaders and activists, underscored the urgent need for accountability and transparency in governance. Participants expressed concerns about the concentration of power and wealth, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values and ensuring equitable development for all segments of society. Notably, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, including Mohd Ilyas, State legal Advisor, State advisory board member of JIH Sadiq Ahmed, were among the attendees, adding diverse perspectives to the discussions. As the nation navigates its political future, the discussions serve as a clarion call for safeguarding democratic principles and addressing socio-economic disparities.
