New Delhi: Expressing happiness over the successful observance of All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s call to switch off lights for 15 minutes at 9 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, National President of the Urdu Development Organisation (UDO), congratulated the Muslim community.
He stated that by responding 100% to the Board’s call and switching off their lights, Muslims have sent a strong message to the Government. In view of this, there is now a growing demand that the BJP-led central government should not treat the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 as a matter of ego and should immediately withdraw it.
He emphasised that the Government must respect the sentiments of the people. The Union Government, without careful consideration, has made numerous amendments to the Waqf Act, many of which are not appropriate in any way. These changes have been strongly opposed by various organisations, political leaders, and intellectuals.
Even when the bill was presented in Parliament, political parties vehemently opposed it, yet it was still passed. Dr. Khan said that the time has now come for the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 to be withdrawn with immediate effect.
