PIL in Allahabad HC Demands Ban on Ram Mandir Consecration

17 January 2024

A public interest litigation has been filed by Bhola Das before the Allahabad High Court, seeking ban on the inaugural ceremony of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya on January 22. The petitioner has claimed that the temple is still under construction and consecration of the deity should not take place as it would be inconsistent with the Sanatana Dharma.

“A religious program is to be organised in Ayodhya on January 22. Ram Lalla idol will be installed at the under-construction temple. The ceremony will be performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Shankaracharyas have an objection to the Pran Pratistha programme. The temple is still incomplete and no deity can be consecrated,” the petition claimed.

The petition also said the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ was described as an affair against the Sanatana tradition. It was also claimed that the BJP was organising the ceremony for electoral gains in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Earlier, the Opposition parties claimed that the Shankaracharyas had decided against attending the January 22 event after objecting to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at an ‘incomplete temple’.
