PIL in Supreme Court Seeks Compensation for Wrongful Bulldozer Actions

New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding compensation for damages caused by the controversial Bulldozer Justice actions. The petition, filed by Delhi residents Alok Sharma and Priya Mishra through their lawyer Narendra Mishra, urges the court to ensure accountability for faulty bulldozer operations, calling for transparency and compensation for affected victims.

The petition specifically demands that the government clarify the reasons and individuals targeted by the bulldozer actions, and that this information be made public. The petitioners argue that any wrongful demolition should be compensated, with responsibility falling on the officials involved.

The plea requests the Supreme Court to issue clear guidelines for bulldozer actions, stipulating that such actions should only be allowed after approval from the District Judge or Magistrate. It is also demanded that the details of those affected and the officers executing the action be publicly disclosed.

Furthermore, the petition seeks a directive that compensation for wrongful demolitions be recovered from the guilty officials responsible for the actions, and that they face strict disciplinary measures.

This comes after the Supreme Court recently raised concerns over the legality of bulldozer actions during a hearing, questioning how such measures could be employed against individuals in criminal cases, stating that it contradicts legal procedures.
