‘They Have Become Muslim League-Maoist’: PM Modi Attacks Congress at Assam Rally

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his attack on the Congress party during a rally in Assam, accusing it of dividing the country and undermining the state’s stability. His remarks drew attention for invoking the Muslim League in a political comparison and linking Congress to what he described as forces seeking to fragment India.

Addressing supporters in Guwahati, Modi claimed Congress had become aligned with divisive elements. He alleged that the party wanted to unsettle Assam and protect infiltrators. He said such actions would alter the original identity of the state. He credited the BJP with restoring order in Assam and ending earlier instability.

On the anniversary of the Pulwama attack, he paid tribute to the fallen security personnel. He cited Operation Sindoor as proof of India’s response to terror threats and questioned whether a Congress government would have acted in a similar manner. He also accused earlier Congress governments of corruption in defence deals.

The Prime Minister highlighted financial allocations to strengthen his argument. He said Assam would receive around Rs 50,000 crore as its tax share this year, compared to Rs 10,000 crore during Congress rule. He added that over Rs 5.5 lakh crore had been released to the state in the past 11 years for development projects.

Modi spoke about infrastructure expansion, including highways and road projects, and referenced a recent aircraft landing on the Moran highway. He promoted river tourism on the Brahmaputra and praised Padma awardee Kabirendra Purkayastha. He noted that more than 125 personalities from the Northeast had received Padma honours since 2014.
