PM Modi’s Endorsement of Alleged Mass Rapist Sparks Outrage and Calls for Ethical Politics

– Mohd Naushad Khan

The recent endorsement of Prajwal Revanna, a Janata Dal (Secular) leader facing serious allegations of mass rape, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ignited a wave of condemnation and scrutiny in the political landscape. This move has been deemed as a new low in India’s electoral history, further tarnishing the image of the country internationally.

During a public rally in Karnataka’s Shivamogga, Rahul Gandhi denounced PM Modi’s support for Prajwal Revanna, accusing the PM of endorsing a “mass rapist” and calling for an apology. The allegations against Revanna, involving the sexual assault and filming of approximately 400 women, have shocked the nation. The Congress leader emphasized that no leader should seek votes for someone accused of such heinous crimes.

The repercussions of PM Modi’s support for Revanna reverberated internationally, with the Australian Newspaper Herald Sun prominently featuring the scandal. The publication highlighted how PM Modi’s association with Revanna has tarnished his image and brought India’s electoral process under scrutiny.

Political observers, such as Amir Ali from JNU, have criticized the BJP’s response to such allegations, pointing out a pattern of inaction and silence on matters of sexual harassment. The BJP’s reluctance to address these issues raises concerns about its commitment to women’s safety and justice.

The endorsement of candidates with criminal records, especially those accused of rape, reflects a disturbing trend in Indian politics. Mrs. Rahmathunnisa, Chief Editor of the Aura e-magazine, emphasized the decline of moral and ethical values in politics and urged for sensible voting to uphold the dignity of the nation.

Sajid Nomani, a professional working with a Multinational Company, expressed dismay at the erosion of dignity associated with the post of Prime Minister. He stressed the importance of promoting positivity and inclusivity in political discourse, rather than supporting individuals with negative reputations.

The controversy surrounding PM Modi’s endorsement of Revanna is reminiscent of past incidents where the BJP government’s actions have raised concerns about its commitment to women’s rights. The premature release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case, where 14 members of her family were brutally murdered, coupled with a lack of accountability, has sparked global outrage and highlighted the need for ethical leadership.

In conclusion, the support of candidates with criminal backgrounds, particularly those accused of rape, underscores the urgent need for ethical reform in Indian politics. Voters must prioritize integrity and character when casting their ballots, while political parties must uphold the values of transparency and accountability. Ultimately, the path to political renewal lies in societal reform and a commitment to value-driven politics.
