PM Urged to Address Demolition of Muslim Homes in Assam, Says AIUDF Leader

New Delhi: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam has urged him to address reports of large scale demolition of Muslim homes in the state. Islam raised the issue during interactions with the media and called for direct intervention from the highest level.

Islam alleged thousands of Muslim families in Assam lost their houses due to bulldozer action. He said many affected families hold valid proof of Indian citizenship. He added many now live without shelter and face daily hardship. According to him, the demolitions have pushed families into uncertainty and distress.

He urged the Prime Minister to take cognisance of the situation during the visit. He said administrative action must protect citizens’ rights and dignity. He stressed housing remains a basic requirement for survival and security.

Islam also spoke about developments in neighbouring Bangladesh. He said internal political rhetoric there poses no real threat to India. He stated people in Bangladesh lack intent or capacity to challenge India. He also said the Bangladeshi government does not present a security challenge.

At the same time, Islam said the Government of India should respond firmly to any issue linked to national security. He called for a clear and strong approach while handling cross border matters.

Islam emphasised domestic issues require equal attention. He said state action must remain lawful and humane. He urged authorities to review demolition drives and ensure protection for vulnerable communities.

The statement reflects growing concern among minority groups regarding housing security in Assam. Islam said resolution of such issues strengthens trust between citizens and the state.
