Police Checks in Nuh Spark Concern Among Local Muslims

New Delhi: Residents of Nuh in Haryana have raised strong concerns after police began extensive checks of mosques, madrasas, rented homes, and workplaces across the district following the recent Delhi car blast. The new directives were issued by the Superintendent of Police for Nuh, Rajesh Kumar, who held a meeting with all station heads and instructed them to increase surveillance.

The police said the checks aim to prevent any terrorist or anti-social activity. Officers have been told to gather information from schools, colleges, madrasas, factories, private institutions, and workplaces. They have also been directed to examine the records of individuals who arrived from outside Nuh. Data collected from these inspections will be shared with investigative agencies.

Police units have also been asked to monitor old vehicles. Officers said old vehicles are often used for crimes and stressed the need for strict verification by landlords before renting out rooms.

The operation has caused deep unease among Muslims in Nuh. Many residents say the actions amount to selective policing in a Muslim-majority district. They argue that the checks focus on religious spaces and houses in their community. A local resident said mosques and madrasas are places of prayer and study and expressed concern that the community is being viewed through suspicion. Another resident who works as a teacher said the action feels one-sided and has created fear among families.

Community elders worry that the checks will damage relations between residents and the police. They say that local youth already face discrimination in employment and housing. A retired madrasa teacher said it hurts to see places of worship inspected this way.

The police action follows claims that the main accused in the Delhi blast visited a mosque in Nuh before the incident. Muslim residents and community leaders say the visit of one individual does not justify widespread checks of all Muslim institutions. Activists say the operation reflects a broader pattern where Muslims come under scrutiny whenever an incident occurs.

Community volunteers in Nuh said they are ready to help the authorities if approached respectfully. They have urged police to engage with local residents and avoid actions that create fear.
