Ahmedabad (Danilimda): Serious allegations have once again been raised against the Gujarat Police after senior journalist Sahal Qureshi and fellow reporter Rais Sheikh were allegedly mistreated while covering a sensitive incident late at night in the Danilimda area.
According to reports, a dispute broke out between BJP and Congress workers over the placement of party flags. Later that night, around 2 AM, a group of BJP workers gathered in front of Peer Kamal Masjid and began chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans. Senior journalist Sahal Qureshi was reporting on the scene when Police Inspector (PI) Rawat allegedly snatched the cameraman’s phone, turned off the camera, and issued threats.
When Rais Sheikh arrived to support his fellow journalist, PI Rawat reportedly misbehaved with him as well. Videos of the entire incident will soon be available on the YouTube channel Desh Live.
The incident has raised serious concerns: the same police inspector who previously detained Muslims for silently protesting with placards against the Waqf Bill outside a mosque—without blocking roads—is now seen ignoring BJP workers sitting in the middle of the road and chanting slogans outside the mosque. Instead, he threatens the journalists reporting the incident and confiscates their equipment.
Is this the so-called “Gujarat Model”? Is this the new “Idea of India” as envisioned by PM Modi?
