Congress Leader Speaks at 186th ‘Speak Up’ Episode
By Raheem Khan
Jaipur – Secular parties and civil society must speak out against rising communal attacks on Muslims, said Shahnawaz Alam, AICC Secretary, during the 186th ‘Speak Up’ episode. He criticized the silence on judicial and executive actions harming Muslims, calling it dangerous.
Alam accused the BJP of fostering hate by distorting medieval history and urged secular parties to counter this narrative. “Ignoring these issues is not an option. Parties must educate their workers and spread historical truth in society,” he stressed.
He alleged the Modi government, with judicial backing, is using the Waqf Amendment Bill, Places of Worship Act 1991, and Uniform Civil Code for communal polarization. “Political opposition is weak, which is a betrayal of democratic values,” he remarked.
He condemned BJP leaders’ communal remarks on Holi falling on Friday and criticized the judiciary for not taking suo motu action. “This shows judicial complicity with communal forces. If the judiciary upheld the Constitution, such leaders would be in jail,” he asserted.
Alam urged secular forces to unite and hold constitutional institutions, especially the judiciary, accountable.
