Prayer Meeting Marks 32nd Anniversary of Babri Masjid Demolition

– Raheem Khan

Jaipur: The Rajasthan Muslim Forum (RMF) organised a prayer meeting at the Muslim Musafirkhana here Friday to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition. Participants from diverse backgrounds attended the meeting to express their views and solidarity.

Addressing the gathering, Mohammad Nazimuddin, RMF General Secretary, described December 6, 1992, as a “black day” in India’s democratic history. He emphasised that while the Supreme Court has delivered its verdict on the Babri Masjid case, true justice remains elusive. “Until justice is served for the Babri Masjid, we will continue to oppose the verdict and demand accountability,” he said.

Dr. Shahabuddin reiterated the enduring significance of Babri Masjid, stating, “There was, is, and always will be a Babri Masjid at that place. We will seek justice for it, and if we don’t see it in our lifetime, our children will continue this pursuit.”

Advocate Mujahid Naqvi cautioned against divisive narratives, warning, “By raising temple-and-mosque issues, some are attempting to disrupt the nation’s harmony. It is our responsibility to prevent this.”

Other speakers, including Naeem Qureshi, Sajid Sahrai, Abdul Latif Arko, and Hafiz Manzoor Ali Khan, highlighted the importance of peace, secularism, and justice. They stressed that events like this prayer meeting not only amplify the call for justice but also foster unity and mutual respect in society. Concerns were raised about lower courts allegedly violating the Places of Worship Act, 1991.

Shabbir Carpet, the convener of RMF, along with Shokat Qureshi, intellectuals, social workers, and religious leaders, participated in the programme. They underscored the need to balance respect for religious beliefs with the safeguarding of justice and human rights in India.

The event concluded in a dignified and peaceful manner, reaffirming the attendees’ commitment to justice and secularism. RMF also appealed to all sections of society to uphold peace, harmony, and unity, urging collective action in the fight for justice. Conducted by Vaqar Ahmed Khan, the programme ended with a prayer.
