Dr. Zahir Kazi is a distinguished educationist and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, the fourth-highest civilian honor in India. Born in Ponda, Goa, he is a prominent figure in the educational and social welfare sectors, currently serving as President of Anjuman-I-Islam, a 150-year-old charitable organization in Mumbai.

With a strong commitment to education, Dr. Kazi has dedicated 40 years of his life to the field. As a practicing radiologist, he holds an MBBS degree from Goa Medical College and an MD in Radiology from Nair Hospital, Mumbai. Over the years, he has been actively involved in both his medical profession and philanthropic endeavors, contributing significantly to the improvement of healthcare and education in the country.

Under Dr. Kazi’s leadership, Anjuman-I-Islam has expanded its reach, running around 97 schools, colleges, hostels, orphanages, and other educational institutions across Maharashtra. These institutions cater to over one lakh students, primarily from minority communities. Notably, the organization has established an Integrated Technical Campus offering various programs in engineering, architecture, pharmacy, and law.

Beyond traditional education, Dr. Zahir Kazi has spearheaded initiatives for rehabilitation, counseling, and skill development for destitute women. The organization also provides sponsorship for underprivileged women, vocational training for youths, adult education, and support for first-generation learners. Additionally, Dr. Kazi has played a crucial role in de-radicalization initiatives, collaborating with both local and international authorities.

Despite his success as a radiologist, Dr. Kazi chose to reduce his medical practice to devote more time to his philanthropic work. His dedication to the cause has been recognized with the Padma Shri award, which he views as a source of encouragement. He firmly believes that the transformation of ‘Bharatvarsh’ into a ‘Vishwa Guru’ (world leader) is achievable within the next two to three years, provided there is increased focus and effort in the field of education.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Kazi remains connected to his roots in Goa. He fondly recalls his days as a student at Almeida High School in Ponda and emphasizes the importance of giving back to society. With plans to expand Anjuman-I-Islam’s presence beyond Maharashtra, including initiatives in Goa, Dr. Kazi continues his mission to make education accessible to every individual, especially those in rural areas and deprived sections of society. His multifaceted contributions to healthcare, education, and social welfare reflect a lifetime dedicated to serving the nation.
