New Delhi: In a gesture of support for the Palestinian cause, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi carried a bag emblazoned with “Palestine” to Parliament on Monday. Known for her vocal criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza, the Congress general secretary has consistently expressed solidarity with Palestinians.
The bag, which featured Palestinian emblems including a watermelon – widely regarded as a symbol of Palestinian resistance – caught the attention of many, reports The Economic Times. Last week, Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, Chargé d’Affaires of Palestine Embassy in New Delhi, met Priyanka to congratulate her on her election victory from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency.

Priyanka has previously condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what she described as “genocidal actions” in Gaza. In June, she accused Netanyahu and his government of “barbarism,” criticising their policies and the escalating violence. Her comments came after Netanyahu defended Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza during a speech to the U.S. Congress.
Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Priyanka emphasised that simply voicing concerns was no longer sufficient. She highlighted the plight of civilians – parents, aid workers, journalists, teachers, and children – who she claimed were falling victim to a “horrific genocide.”
