New Delhi: The All India Unani Tibbi Congress (AIUTC) convened a meeting where Prof. Muhammad Mazahir Alam, a member of the Board of Ethics and Registration under NCISM, Government of India, shared valuable advice with practitioners of Unani medicine.
Prof. Alam emphasised the need to promote Unani medicine as a public health discipline while reflecting on its rich heritage and avenues for practical advancement. He encouraged Unani practitioners to master pulse diagnosis and employ traditional methods such as the examination of urine and stool for diagnosis.
Prof. Alam also highlighted the importance of using temperament and humour-based principles, suggesting the preparation of a list of diagnostic questions rooted in the 10 dietary essentials (Ajnaas-e-Ashra). He noted that about 50% of diseases could be diagnosed based on these principles, with modern diagnostic tools serving only as supplementary aids, not primary reliance.
The event also saw Dr. Sanjay Dhingra, National Treasurer of AIUTC, extending a warm welcome to Prof. Alam. Dr. Dhingra expressed gratitude for Prof. Alam’s participation and commended his expertise, humility, and passion for Unani medicine. He remarked that Prof. Alam’s inclusion as the first capable member representing Unani medicine in NCISM is a significant milestone, achieved after persistent efforts.
Dr. Dhingra reiterated the need for balanced representation of Unani medicine within NCISM and expressed hope that, under the Ministry of AYUSH, the newly established commission would address past grievances effectively.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Syed Ahmed Khan, General Secretary of the AIUTC, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants.
