Aligarh: Professor Syed Moied Ahmed, a distinguished academician and eminent expert in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Al-Karim University, Katihar, Bihar. The university, established under the Bihar Private Universities Act, 2013, and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2019, welcomes Prof. Ahmed’s appointment as a visionary step towards academic excellence and institutional growth.
Prof. Moied, currently re-employed as Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), brings over three decades of rich clinical, academic, and administrative experience. He completed his MBBS from Calcutta University, MD and PhD from AMU, and holds prestigious fellowships including FICCM, FCCP, FIMSA, FICA, and MNAMS. He is also an International Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine from Leeds Teaching University Hospital, UK.
Renowned for his contributions to Critical Care, Difficult Airway Management, and Resuscitation Science, Prof. Moied has authored Indian guidelines on CPR (COLS, BCLS, CCLS) and All India Difficult Airway Guidelines. As a prolific researcher, he has published over 130 papers in reputed national and international journals, edited several volumes, and mentored more than 50 MD theses across multiple disciplines.
He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (Central Supplement) and currently heads the Journal of Resuscitation. His academic engagement includes delivering more than 150 invited lectures and leading workshops across India and abroad. He has also contributed to advancing clinical protocols in managing ARDS, snakebite, organophosphorus poisoning, and ICU-acquired infections.
In his tenure as Chairman, Department of Anaesthesiology at AMU, he increased MD seats from 9 to 19, established a Simulation Lab for UG and PG training, and served as Deputy Medical Superintendent of JNMC. Prof. Moied has held leadership roles in several national professional bodies, including the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Indian Resuscitation Council (IRC), and Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM).
Felicitated by the Vice Chancellor of AMU, Vice President of India, and President of ISA, Prof. Moied has been honoured with numerous awards including the Dr Y.V. Bhoj Raj Award for Best Review Article and the INO-US Best Academician and Researcher Award.
His appointment marks a significant milestone in Al-Karim University’s journey and is expected to propel the institution into a new era of academic and research distinction.
