Prof. Rafikul Islam, a professor at the Department of Business Administration, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), has been named the new Vice Chancellor of Aliah University.
Hailing from Bengal, Prof. Islam completed his MSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calcutta and earned his Ph.D. in Operations Research from IIT Kharagpur. Renowned internationally for his academic contributions, Prof. Islam brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
Since 1998, he has been serving at IIUM, following a brief teaching stint in Karnataka and at BITS Pilani. At IIUM, he has held several leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Business Administration and Deputy Dean (Academic Affairs) at the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences.
Prof. Islam is a recipient of the Quality Research Award at the university level and has made significant contributions to academia. He has authored five books and published over 100 research papers in esteemed local and international journals. Under his mentorship, ten students have successfully completed their PhDs. He has also presented more than 50 research papers at conferences worldwide.
Currently, he serves as the Chief Editor of the IIUM Journal of Case Studies in Management and is an Associate Editor for two international journals, in addition to being on the editorial boards of several local and international publications.
Prof. Islam is recognised for his expertise in conducting workshops on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) both locally and globally. His research interests encompass Applications of AHP in Management, Multiple Criteria Decision Making, Quality Management, and Operations Management.
