Protest Erupts against Kamal Haasan’s ‘Amaran’ over Alleged Misrepresentation of Muslims

Chennai, Feb. 22: Members of the Tamilaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi (TMJK) took to the streets in protest against actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan and his upcoming film ‘Amaran’, accusing it of portraying Muslims in a derogatory light. The demonstration took place in Chennai, with similar protests reported in Virudhachalam.

The controversy surrounds the recently released teaser of ‘Amaran’, where the protestors allege that the film depicts Muslims as terrorists. The teaser, revealed by Kamal Haasan himself ahead of his birthday, shows an Indian soldier being kidnapped and threatened by a group of Muslim children.

The TMJK members raised slogans against Kamal Haasan, condemning the film for allegedly inciting religious discord and perpetuating negative stereotypes about the Muslim community.

As tensions escalated, some protestors attempted to burn an effigy of Kamal Haasan. The police intervened, dispersing the crowd and detaining a few individuals involved in the demonstration.

The protestors are demanding immediate action against the release of the film and are calling for a ban on ‘Amaran’. They also urged the INDIA bloc to distance itself from Kamal Haasan’s political party, Makkal Needhi Maiyam.
