Protest in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan Demands End to Gaza Killings

Mumbai: Azad Maidan echoed with loud slogans of “Free Free Palestine” as citizens, activists, and political leaders gathered to denounce Israeli aggression in Gaza. The protest was organized after Mumbai Police initially refused permission but was later allowed following conditional approval from the High Court.

Participants condemned the large-scale killings in Gaza, calling them crimes against humanity. Speakers said thousands of innocent people, including children and the elderly, have lost their lives and that hospitals, homes, and relief supplies have been systematically targeted. Protesters demanded that the United Nations act immediately to stop Israel’s assault and ensure humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians.

The demonstration saw participation from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, left parties, student groups, and civil society activists. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party, including Meraj Siddiqui, also addressed the crowd. They urged the Government of India to return to its historic policy of supporting Palestine and to take a clear diplomatic stand against Israel’s actions.

Protesters emphasized that continued silence will only embolden further atrocities. They appealed for stronger international pressure on Israel and for urgent steps to end the blockade and allow medical and food supplies into Gaza.
