Protesters in Casablanca Rally in Solidarity with Gaza Amid Escalating Humanitarian Crisis

30 March 2024

Hundreds of impassioned demonstrators flooded the streets of Casablanca, Morocco, echoing their support for the besieged residents of Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel. Clad in traditional keffiyah and brandishing Palestinian flags, women led the march, their voices resounding with slogans denouncing the brutality of Israel’s relentless attacks.

The rally, a poignant display of solidarity, comes at a critical juncture as Gaza reels under the weight of immense suffering. Shocking reports from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reveal the dire state of affairs, with catastrophic hunger and malnutrition gripping the region. Children, the most vulnerable victims, are so severely malnourished that they lack the energy even to cry.

The toll of the conflict continues to mount, with over 32,623 lives lost in Gaza, the majority being women and children. As families strive to observe the holy month of Ramadan, they are forced to break their fasts with meager sustenance, even resorting to consuming grass in a desperate bid to survive.

Amidst the chaos, horrifying accounts emerge of the egregious violations of human dignity. At Al Nasser Hospital, a woman was subjected to a dehumanizing ordeal, stripped naked in front of her own husband and brother. The anguish is compounded by the daily loss of mothers, with 37 precious lives extinguished every day. Furthermore, the scourge of sexual assault haunts the community, with 65 reported cases daily, while a staggering 60,000 pregnant women endure the ravages of malnutrition.

As the world watches in horror, the protest in Casablanca stands as a testament to the unwavering solidarity with the people of Gaza, a poignant call for justice and an end to the suffering inflicted upon innocent lives.
