Heavy Police Presence as Demolition Sparks Local Outcry
New Delhi, June 26: On Tuesday, the Mangolpuri area of northwest Delhi witnessed protests following the partial demolition of a mosque deemed to be encroaching on public land. The demolition, conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), began early in the morning and was carried out under heavy police and paramilitary presence.
The demolition drive started at 6 a.m., prompting a swift response from local residents who gathered to protest the action. Reports of stone pelting emerged, but these were later denied by the police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram addressed the situation, stating, “Some people objected to the demolition but the situation is now under control.” He noted that the demolition was temporarily halted after a few walls were torn down because some parts of the structure required heavy machinery for removal.
As of now, the MCD has not issued an official response regarding the incident. Despite the protests, authorities have maintained that the situation remains under control.
