13 Jun. 24: Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal disclosed on Tuesday that inflammatory remarks aimed at members of the minority community, rather than the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans, were the primary catalyst for the recent stabbing incident in Boliyar.
The altercation took place during a procession by BJP workers celebrating the swearing-in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Commissioner Agarwal detailed that as the procession reached an auto stand approximately 0.5 km from a mosque, some participants directed derogatory comments towards members of the minority community, stating, “You people belong to Pakistan and the arrival of Modi has scared you.”
The tension escalated as the procession approached the mosque. BJP workers amplified the volume of their music, danced energetically, and raised provocative slogans, further inflaming the situation, Agarwal explained.
Subsequently, a confrontation ensued, leading to a stabbing incident. The police have arrested one individual named Aboobaker, bringing the total number of detainees to six. To apprehend the remaining 14 suspects, the police have formed three special teams. Among those arrested is a known rowdy-sheeter, who allegedly used a pocket knife to stab the victims.
In response to the incident, the police held a peace meeting on Tuesday within the Konaje police station limits. This meeting aimed to address the heightened tensions and work towards restoring peace and order in the community. The authorities emphasized the importance of maintaining communal harmony and urged all parties to refrain from provocative actions that could incite further violence.
