Ludhiana: Education institutes across Punjab have asked staff to ensure Muslim students feel at home during the holy month of Ramadan. The move follows recent protests by Kashmiri Muslim students at CT University. Campus officials state that normalcy has returned and students resumed routine activities.
Davinder Singh, Dean Student Welfare at CT University, said Muslim students, including boys and girls from Jammu and Kashmir, joined Iftar in a peaceful atmosphere. He said the campus restored order by Tuesday evening.
Student councils and hostel teams in several institutes have joined hands to arrange Sehri and Iftar meals. Office bearers work with mess staff to serve food on time. Muslim students from different campuses said authorities provided facilities and freedom to observe Rozas without difficulty.
Mursleen, a BAMS student at Guru Nanak Ayurvedic College in Gopalpur, said students received fresh and warm meals for Sehri and Iftar as in previous years. He said he feels at home while offering Namaz and observing fast.
Dr Iqbal Singh Walia from the Trust running Guru Nanak Group of Colleges said senior functionaries advised departments to make arrangements for all religious festivals. He said senior teachers and local students join Muslim students during Iftar. Management members will greet students by attending Iftar on selected days. He added that the institute will ensure safety and comfort for students who wish to visit a mosque on Eid.
Muslim students from other states also joined the Iftar hosted at the Gopalpur college, reflecting support across campuses.
