Putin Meets Iran’s Foreign Minister, Reaffirms Support for Tehran

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Kremlin for a strategic meeting amid escalating Middle Eastern tensions. Putin strongly condemned recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as “an absolutely unprovoked aggression,” reaffirming Russia’s enduring and reliable partnership with Tehran , reported the AP News.
Putin emphasized Russia’s active assistance to the Iranian people and reiterated its long-standing cooperation in the peaceful nuclear energy sector, notably through projects like the Bushehr nuclear power plant .
Foreign Minister Araghchi lauded Russia’s principled stance, calling the U.S. and Israeli attacks “completely illegitimate” and a breach of international norms. He underscored Iran’s sovereign right to defend itself and pointed to the vital strategic and nuclear collaboration between the two nations .
The visit follows a directive from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in which Araghchi was tasked to seek reinforced Russian diplomatic backing in response to the large-scale U.S. strikes—the most significant since 1979—and rising threats of regime change .
